Dorcas Sowunmi - Playwright

Dorcas Sowunmi is a Playwright/Performing Artist/ Educator, based in New York, originally from Texas. She is one of the 2022 Emerging Playwrights for Quick Silver Theater Company’s Playwrights of Color Conference. Dorcas was also in the first cohort of playwrights in The Echoes Writer’s Group at Primary Stages in New York (2021-22). As a performer, Dorcas has worked extensively in theatre, film, and television throughout North American. She is currently on tour with the Broadway National Tour of To Kill a Mockingbird. Dorcas holds an MFA in Acting from The University of Texas at Austin.

NICOLE A. WATSON - is the HGB BOLD Associate Artistic Director at the McCarter Theatre Center. She produced the Adrienne Kennedy Festival, directing a digital version of She Brought Her Heart Back in a Box. A history teacher, turned freelance director, Nicole’s directing career includes premiering new plays by writers of color in addition to championing missing voices to the stage. Credits include Pearl Cleage’s Blues for an Alabama Sky (Guthrie Theater, McCarter), and world premieres of Charly Evon Simpson’s it’s not a trip it’s a journey, (Round House) and Keith Josef Adkins’ The West End (Cincinnati Playhouse). She has been the lead teacher for the Kennedy Center Directing Intensive of the past 4 years. Member of the SDC BA History, Yale. Productions: Slave Play (Short North Stage), Uncle Vanya (Columbia University). Television: “Survival of the Thickest”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “Bull”, “Homicide City”. Candyce is a teaching artist & director at On Broadway Performing Arts Training Program, founded by Broadway veteran Rema Webb & Daniel Siford. Through this program she has directed 4 musicals: Hairspray, High School Musical, Rent & Spamalot. As a QSTC member, Candyce has appeared in numerous play readings and is a staple associate for the Playwrights of Color Summit.

LAURYN HAYES - Graduate of Marymount Manhattan College (BFA in Dance, BA in Business). Hayes is classically trained in dancing, and has worked with choreographers including Wayne McGregor, Camille A. Brown, Andrea Miller, and Bill T. Jones. Hayes has acting training from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and has recently had her acting debut in Kenny Leon's Hamlet as an ensemble member. In her free time you can find Hayes writing, acting, or enjoying modeling features in Vogue España, Vogue U.S., Vogue Italia, and The New Yorker.

QUENISHA IMANI MOSS graduated from the Cleveland School of the Arts majoring in Drama and was an integral member of its Student Writing Team. She worked with the Cleveland Playhouse in their Teen Performance Ensemble, the Dobama Theatre in their Dobama Emerging Actors Program (DEAP), and the Cleveland Public Theatre in their Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP). In 2021, she was a winning playwright in Dobama Theatre’s Marilyn Bianchi Kids’ Festival lineup. She currently studies acting at New York University through the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

LAUGHTON ROYCE Hailing from Atlanta, GA. 2022 CMU graduate. Next up, a small but fun role in HBO’s THE GILDED AGE. Honored to make my NYC theatre debut at The Public.  Special thanks to my amazing team, Beth (CPG) and April (WME). Gratitude and Love to everyone who has helped me on this journey. Love you Bcrew!

LAUREN SLAVIN is thrilled to join the cast of SAFE RIDE with the Quick Silver Theater Company. A BFA student at NYU Tisch in the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, her cohort most recently finished a run of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill. She is very grateful to be working with Dorcas, Nicole, and the Quick Silver community. She sends her love home to Seattle and special thanks to all of her teachers, especially Tyrone Mitchell Henderson for teaching her to trust herself and be free.
