Short Rib on Friday afternoon. November 16th, 2018 at 11 am.
This reading will take place at A.R.T. New York in the Bruce Mitchell Room
520 8th Avenue 3rd Floor
By A. Emmanuel Leadon, directed by Timothy Johnson.
Short Rib is a subversion of the Christian creation myth, also partially inspired by the oeuvre of Anton Chekhov. Kane and Able Ramsey, brothers and roommates born into wealth, have been burdened with the largest workload of their lives: the daily care of their older brother Seth, who has come down with a serious, unidentifiable disease. As Seth’s fortieth and potentially final birthday approaches, Kane and Able are surprised to learn that their mother is as eager to change the status quo as they are.

The power of love and friendship shared between two mothers from very different cultural and political worlds illustrates how our shared humanity bonds us all, and how the human spirit can survive and heal even in the face of seemingly insurmountable circumstances.

My Father’s Keeper is about family and the secrets we keep to protect our loved ones. Tirsio Armando Gonzalez and his wife Juana are the pillars of their community in the Dominican Republic and in their new home in Chicago, but Tirsio’s sudden death causes family secrets to come to light. Dealing with their father’s truth and double life, Mondo and Sofía must learn to lean on each other like never before while figuring out how to best honor their father. The Gonzalez family must define what secrets are worth keeping and which ones aren’t worth the trouble.

In the near future, in an undisclosed town, a mother is forced by an oppressive regime to choose whether to murder her only son for what has been deemed "shameful" behavior or witness the wiping out of her entire family. A dark comedy. Yes. A dark comedy.
